Bloomberg Businessweek names Georgia among the best travel destinations in 2018

Yet another newspaper puts Georgia on its list of the most attractive destinations for travelling this year.

The US magazine Bloomberg Businessweek recommends 22 cities and countries to spend the holidays. “We have scoured the globe for the most exciting openings and events in 2018 and boiled them down to 22 especially compelling destinations” – the authors write. The article also provides hotel pricing insights and seasonal recommendations.

“Bloomberg Businessweek” attributes a “resilient spirit and creative energy” to Georgia’s capital

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the following destinations are “in the midst of an evolution – bursting with new, standard-setting hotels and restaurants, or chock-full of new cultural attractions”: Salvador in Brazil, the Caribbean island St. Kitts, Chilean Patagonia, Borneo, Jordan, Dundee in Scotland, Cambodia, Abu Dhabi, Namibia, Singapore, Slovenia, Los Angeles, Florence, Italy, Fiji, South Korea, Washington and New Orleans in the USA, Los Cabos in Mexico, Southern Tanzania, Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, Tunisia – and Georgia.

Bloomberg Businessweek” recommends Room Hotels for its “aura of cool”

The authors chose Tbilisi for its cool and urban atmosphere: “It’s no surprise then that its resilient spirit and creative energy have earned the city comparisons to Berlin in the mid-aughts, before it was widely known as an edgy nightlife capital” – “Bloomberg Businessweek” reports.

The article stresses that since its founding in the mid-5th century, Georgia’s capital and largest city has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. Different conquerors left their marks on the country’s culture, most of all the Persian Empire and the Soviet Union. It can be seen in Georgia’s famous cuisine.

„Its nascent hotel scene, however, is entirely homegrown“, the article continues, highlighting the Georgian hospitality brand Adjara, founded five years ago. Their “Rooms Hotels” in Tbilisi in Kazbegi are already widely known for their cool ambiance and interior. “This spring, the group introduces the capital’s first five-star property, Stamba, in a Soviet-era printing house; all are part of the Design Hotels collection. Its 2018 expansion plan includes high-design openings in the mountains of Mestia, seaside Batumi, and wine country” – the famous website reports.

Georgia is famous for its wine-making tradition

Wine is also among the reasons, why the authors recommend Georgia as a travel destination. Just recently, scientist found evidence that vintners in Georgia have been making wine for 8000 years. The findings indicate that Georgia could be the birthplace of wine.

Recently, archeologists discovered the oldest evidence of winemaking close to Tbilisi

The article recommends visiting Georgia in spring, from April to early June, because of the great weather – or in the peak harvest season in September and October, when local dishes, such as phkali (a traditional Georgian dish of chopped and minced vegetables) are at their best. However, tourists should skip the months of July and August because they are really hot, whereas the winter season, from November through March can be cold and wet.
